At this year’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple took center stage to unveil some exciting new features that will revolutionize the way we consume entertainment. One such feature is InSight, a handy tool designed for Apple TV+ subscribers.

InSight: The New Feature That Will Change How We Watch

InSight appears to be similar to Amazon’s X-Ray feature, which provides users with an overview of actor bios and behind-the-scenes information while watching TV shows and movies. However, what sets InSight apart is its Shazam-like functionality, which highlights the song playing in the TV show or movie and gives users the option to add it to an Apple Music playlist to listen to later.

To use InSight, Apple TV+ subscribers can employ their remote to bring up a display with actor names and character information in real-time. They can then pull up a background and filmography page for a specific actor, providing an immersive experience like never before. Additionally, there will be a direct link to access the soundtrack on Apple Music, making it easier than ever to explore new music.

tvOS 18: Enhanced Audio Experience

Apple also announced several updates to tvOS, the software running on Apple TV. One such update is the improvement of the audio experience by bringing enhanced dialogue to TV speakers, receivers, AirPods, and other Bluetooth devices. This feature, called Enhance Dialogue, was previously only available to users with HomePod speakers.

Thanks to machine learning and computational audio, Enhance Dialogue is getting smarter with tvOS 18. The company claims that there will be better vocal clarity over background noise, music, and action scenes on Apple TV 4K. This means that viewers can expect a more immersive experience, with clearer dialogue and less distraction.

Automatic Subtitles: A Game-Changer for Accessibility

Another feature coming to tvOS 18 is the automatic enabling of subtitles in certain situations. These situations include:

  • When the volume is muted
  • When the language in the show or movie doesn’t match the device language
  • When a user wants to replay a scene

This feature will make it easier for viewers with hearing impairments to access entertainment content, promoting greater accessibility and inclusivity.

tvOS 18: A More Accessible Experience

tvOS 18 will be available later this year, bringing with it a host of features designed to enhance the viewing experience. From improved audio to automatic subtitles, Apple is clearly committed to making its platform more accessible and user-friendly.

WWDC 2024: A Platform for Innovation

The WWDC 2024 conference was a hotbed of innovation, with Apple unveiling some exciting new features that will shape the future of entertainment. From InSight to tvOS 18, it’s clear that Apple is committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
